The Colorado RC Scene

I recently got a chance to visit the Denver, Colorado area on a quick vacation.  Having several hobbies, I tried to fit in many on the three day trip to visit my college-hood buddy.  Of course, when in Colorado, you do as the Coloradans, so we hit several hiking destinations and some tourist areas like the Coors Factory (with free samples!) and the Spyderco (knives) factory in Golden.

I couldn’t skip my favorite hobby, so I dragged my buddy out to a couple RC destinations including a couple hobby shops (HobbyTown and Remote Controlled Hobbies) in the Centennial area and two tracks including the famous MHOR Raceway in Aurora and The Crawl Space in Wheat Ridge.  Overall, the RC scene in Colorado was great.  The hobby shops were well stocked and the tracks were top notch!  What really impressed me were the people, although slightly skeptical of the out-of-town “YouTuber”, everyone rolled out the Red Carpet and gave me a great tour of the Colorado RC scene!

MHOR Raceway

MHOR (Mile High Off-Road) Raceway is currently the oldest original owner off-road RC race track in the country.  The Brockman’s founded the establishment in 1986 and has been the home track from RC stars like TLR’s Dustin Evans and Team Associated Engineer, Kody Numendahl.  With over 7,000 square feet of indoor (and air conditioned!) space that houses the Blue Groove clay track, 90 pit spaces and a full service hobby shop, the history of the place shines through.

Outside, there is currently a 7,800 sq/ft paved on-road track and a small rock crawler course to capture all the niches of RC in one place.  Since the trends change in RC almost daily, MHOR will be undergoing a huge remodel of the on-road track making way for what’s becoming the biggest trend – an 1/8th scale dirt track.CO_mohr_outdoor_track

Since nitro is super hard to tune and keep running at the mile high altitude, E-Buggies / Truggies and high powered 4wd ShortCourse trucks will have a new home!  I even got to meet (face to face) a local FaceBook friend, Travis and got to see him wheel his super tuned TLR 22-4 2.0 buggy around the indoor track!

If you get a chance to visit MHOR Raceway, tell them Rich sent you!  If you’re local to Aurora/Denver and haven’t stopped by, please do so!  The place, people and RC and great!  To check out MHOR Raceway, visit them here:  15540 E. The Crawl Space

The Crawl Space originally founded by Ikaika Farrior is Colorado’s premiere indoor Rock Crawling place.  With over 50 tons of rock, the indoor course challenges every skill level.  The course is geared toward competition trucks and well equipped scalers.  The terrain is always changing and growing with the addition of new rock each month.

Where The Crawl Space really shines is the built in hobby shop – with brands like Axial, BWD, Castle Creations, Chaotic Crawlers, Crawler Innovations, Dinky RC, Holmes Hobbies, Integy, MIP, Pit Bull Tires, Pro-Line Racing, RC4WD, Robinson Racing, Robitronics, Sky Lipo, STRC, UnderGround Crawlers, Vanquish Products and Y-Town Crawlers. The Crawl Space has the parts in stock to keep you running harder and longer!

If you’re in the crawling or scaling scene and haven’t checked out The Crawl Space, you’re missing out on a great place, great people and great RC!  To check out The Crawl Space, visit them here:  4920 Iris St. Wheat Ridge, CO. 80033. Phone: 303-396-5532 or their website at
