Axial Racing has been at it again with yet another platform, the SMT10 Grave Digger Monster Jam Truck. It seems like just yesterday, the scale giant released the Yeti platform and four hours ago the brand new SCX10ii which has been the rave of the scale world.
Axial Racing is just not stopping. They’ve taken the radio control world by storm releasing platform after platform. Keep in mind, this isn’t just a quick refresh, like some companies where they slap on a new body scheme and a sound module and call it a day. These are pretty much ground up designs that scream with scale details and licensing to give the consumer the best possible product.
A True Scaled Monster Truck
Now back to the SMT10……it’s a 1/10th scale 4wd true monster truck – with probably the most recognized body – Grave Digger. Since Traxxas lost the licensing, Axial has picked up the monster truck giant and did it with a true monster truck chassis – yeah, with solid axles. Taken from the Axial Wraith, the AR60 axles are tried and proven, but this time with open differentials (the Wraith and other sport diff lockers). With trailing arms mated up to an all new skid plate, the SMT10 has all the scale details with 2.2″ wheels mated to very scale BKT tires. Peaking from under the body is probably the best part, the very detailed green tube chassis.
The tube chassis really takes the prize on this ready to run vehicle with all of the details of a true Monster Jam rig. On all four corners, aluminum bodied long throw shocks are seen mated to potentially two mounting points either fore or aft of the vertical straight position or if you plan to run a dual shock set up. A rear sway bar (most likely for the Yeti) is added for stability and maybe chassis twist.
A new servo saver and Heavy Duty Ram styled hydraulic steering links give added durability on this large tired specimen. The driveline is typical Axial with 32p gears, nicely appointed transmission with a dual slipper clutch and WB8 driveshafts front and rear to deliver the power. Electronics wise, this RTR gets the AE-5 waterproof ESC mated to the proven 27t brushed motor and is capable of running 2-3s batteries (not included). The Tactic radio system and water resistant servo are great added RTR features.
The officially licensed Grave Digger 1950’s panel wagon body makes it the full package complete with chromed out headers peaking out of the body.
The Grave Digger Delivers
So, will this Monster truck sell…….Hell yeah it will! This is every RC enthusiasts dream when it comes to monster trucks. It delivers in all categories:

I can already see all of the aftermarket guys like Vanquish Products, Incision, Pro-Line Racing, etc. salivating on this release! I’m sure Lue Lee from MattZilla has already fired up the torch to start a new chassis design and guys like Evol Villain and Scale Builders Guild are chomping at the bit to get one in shop to make their own custom rig.
